Compared to many of my competition, I am pretty late to the game of bike racing. After playing cricket and football from a young age I never found it to be addictive or exciting enough to keep at it or to enjoy it, so after taking out my rusty mountain bike on a cold October morning (my birthday in fact) and ending up in a bush with a broken scaphoid, I was addicted.
My main inspiration to start cycling was my Dad and Uncle when they did the John O’Groats to Lands End in 2011. However what really gripped me was Bradley Wiggins when he won the Individual Time Trial in the 2012 Critérium Du Dauphiné.
In my first full season in 2014 after signing with Zappi RT after a short spell with Outdoor Traders Race Team, I managed to grab a couple of regional results but seemed to get smashed at the national series. So with a new drive into the 2015 season I stepped up the mark and got some big results like a few top tens in international stage races, winning most of the southern areas youth criteriums, top tens in some of the national circuit series and 7th at the national championships.
So far the 2016 season has been a struggle for me as I have been doing my GCSEs whilst trying to manage training. I've also had some bad luck with punctures and crashes in very important races. With a 23rd in a very high level Bristol GP recently I've got a new drive to do well in some races later on in the year. Bring it on!
